Breast Cancer Awareness​

Our philanthropy helps inform our peers and community about resources and facts related to breast cancer.  
Sigma Theta Psi makes great strides to play an active role in educating our community about breast cancer. Throughout the year we raise awareness by hosting events such as:

​During the first week of October we will be hosting our Pink Week by tabling at the 7th Street Plaza to raise money and awareness for breast cancer while doing activities relating to the cause. We as a chapter want the SJSU community to learn facts about breast cancer and think about what they can do to help patients diagnosed or teach their peers about the disease. Any money we raise during our events will be donated to Bay Area Cancer Connections. 
Quick Facts
  • Cancer is a group of diseases that cause cells in the body to change and grow out of control.
  • Breast cancer begins in the breast tissue that is made up of glands for milk production, called lobules, and the ducts that connect the lobules to the nipple.
  • Breast cancer typically produces no symptoms when the tumor is small and most easily cured. Therefore, it is very important for women to follow recommended screening guidelines for detecting breast cancer at an early stage. When breast cancer has grown to a size that can be felt, the most common physical sign is a painless lumps.
